Playoffs

Yesterday, my beloved Dodgers clinched the NL West title. I'm happy for Joe Torre, who is a class act. They haven't won a World Series title in 20 years. As a matter of fact, they haven't won a playoff series in 20 years.

Here's hoping for a better showing this year. It would be so cool to have a Freeway Series for the bragging righs to Southern California. Maybe next year the Dodgers will change their name to the Orange County Dodgers of Los Angeles. Ridiculous? Well, tell that to Arte "geography is beyond me" Moreno. So Stupid. Well, starting Wednesday it's a whole new season. Go Dodgers!!

A Legacy

My mom came down this week for a visit and she brought some Bibles that were my Grandpa's for me to see. One of them was given to my Grandpa by the person that led him to the Lord when he first got saved. It's in remarkably good shape considering that it's held together by black duct tape.

My Grandpa marked up his Bible real good. There are tons of passages underlined and notes written in the margins. I picked it up and out of no where the tears began to flow. His love for God and for the Word of God was so evident to me and the rest of his family. I thought about the many times he would share with me something (usually about God's grace) that he had just read. He would talk about it like he just discovered it, even though he had read that passage 100 times and had it memorized. There were some pages of the New Testament (especially the book of Romans) that were more discolored than others. I expected as much, because those were the scriptures we talked about most of the time when we were together.

I didn't look at it too long yesterday, because there were people around and I didn't want to look like an idiot, crying all over the place. But here's what I took away from those few minutes . . . "What legacy will I leave for my kids and my grandkids?" Will they only remember a good man that loved them and worked hard. I mean, those are important things, but I hope there is more. I hope that I will have lived out my faith before them. I hope that my love for God and His Word will have been so great that when my kids pick up my Bibles, they would almost be able to hear my voice filled with excitement over having just "discovered" something in God's Word for the 100th time, just like my Grandpa.

Upcoming NY Trip

OK, I know it's 4 1/2 months away, but we are so excited that I have to share. The last Coaching Network session for me is going to be in person at The Journey church in NY the first week of February. So, since I HAVE to go, I figured I might as well make the most of it.

Sharon's going with me and we're going to leave on Thursday and come back on Monday. Besides that, I got 2 tickets (Front Mezzanine/Center Stage) to see Wicked at the Gershwin Theater on the Friday night.

I also had enough miles between American and Alaska Air for both of us to fly free (minus the stupid $15 fee for a checked bag), plus enough Marriott points to cover at least 2 of the nights stay in Manhattan. Sharon's also trying to get tickets to see Regis & Kelly on Monday before we head back. My kids aren't very happy that they aren't going, but it will be a great DATE WEEKEND for us.

Oh yeah . . . the Coaching Network will on Saturday and we'll get to go to The Journey on Sunday for church.

Magic Number is 7

After a brutally long day-game today, the Dodgers pulled out a 4-3 win against the mighty Pirates. They now have 9 games to play, 6 of them at home and the Diamondbacks have 11 games to play (including tonight) with 7 on the road in Colorado and St. Louis.

My boss is glad the game finally ended at about 1:30 today. It started at 9:30AM and I wasn't getting much work done. I think I was disturbing the rest of my co-workers with the chant, "Let's go Dodgers * * ***, Let's go Dodgers, * * ***". Do you think my clapping was a little over the top?

Politics

I am really into the election coverage and watching how different media outlets portray the different candidates. I admit, I have a bias against a certain worldview (liberalism). But I have to tell you, the way that ABC has mistated things that Sarah Palin has said and the way they placate to the "left" ticks me off.

Here are a few examples (here and here) of how ABC seems to be attempting to get Mr. Obama elected.

Now, I'm not saying that the "right" is blameless. I'm sure there are some from "the other side" that don't like the way their candidate is portrayed either. I just wish we could get the facts without the spin, but that will never happen. That's why we need to take the time to educate ourselves, without absorbing the pre-spun lies from the media.

Amen!

Football Season Is Always So Short

Every year the Raiders get killed in the first game of the season, ending all hope of a decent record. Not fun. If they fire Lane Kiffin (which I believe Al Davis will do by the end of game 4), I will seriously consider turning in my Raider fan card and finding a new team. Maybe I'll just swear off pro football altogether. I feel sorry for the young players on the team. They are stuck in a black hole.

Funny Stuff . . .

This is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time. Terry Skiles had this on his blog and I actually think he wrote the song. He just won't admit to it.

They're Just Suckering Me In

I know what they're trying to do. They're just playing well enough to stay close to 1st place and get me to watch them again. As soon as I do, WHAM! Right back in the tank.

I can't help myself though. I'm going to the game in LA Friday night. They're playing the D-Backs and they're only 1 1/2 games out. It should be a good game. Two good pitchers, plus we get to see Manny be Manny.
